This month saw Christmas films reviewed on mass but the final Film Of The Month for December 2012 has to be The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Besides being another chapter in one of cinemas greatest literary adaptations, it also managed to seamlessly merge with the original trilogy in a way which some sequels even fail to do, let alone what is essentially a prequel. And even though Peter Jackson, who is hardly known for brevity is back in the director’s chair, the 160 minutes passed well and he managed to keep a long-winded story together with some decent pacing and a palpable sense of fun, something not as pronounced in The Lord Of the Rings trilogy.

Other contenders were Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) as well as the festive treats, The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and the timeless classic It’s A Wonderful Life (1946).
