Looney Tunes lives again! But this it’s not Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck, rather Maggie Simpson and that baby with the uni-brow. The pair face-off throughout the day as the feuding babies engage in a series slapstick battles, mainly focusing on a butterfly, none of which were harmed during the making of this film, as the disclaimer states at the end.
Attached to the showing of Ice Age 4: Continental Drift (2012) and nominated for the Best Animated Short Academy Award, but beaten, quite rightly by Disney’s short, Paperman (2012), this is a nod to the old school pre show short, a trend which has been building momentum over the past few years and one which I would be more than pleased to see return to the cinema.
But this is a good, fun and entertaining short, with little dialogue, simple action and a villain which we can laugh at, as well as revel in his eventual defeat. At only five minutes long, it’s hardly a Saturday night movie, that would be The Simpsons Movie (2007), but as a short cartoon, it certainly holds it’s own against the competition.
The Simpsons have still got it, even after 23 years.
