Moving at times, this is Martin Freeman’s gentle comedy, with a dose of romance. Paul Maddens (Freeman) is a grumpy teacher, who is on a mission to put on the best Nativity in order to beat his bitter rival at a better school. But he inadvertently lies to everyone and they all believe that Hollywood is coming to watch the show. In the process he learns to be a better teacher and the kids put on the show of a lifetime.
The comedy, like everything else here is gentle, with likeable characters and Freeman almost steals the show, but he is pipped at the post by the kids. They are real and are believable as such. Fun through and through and whilst not one my Christmas staples or a classic, the kids like it and it certainly feels festive.
